In support of the annual "Make A Difference Day," Assistance League of Tustin, in partnership with THINK Together, collected and donated a wide selection of 1,254 new and gently-used books (appropriate for infants through 10 years of age) to local schools and organizations that are in need. Books were collected at the Assistance League Thrift Shop located in Old Town Tustin, Peet's, Lost Bean, True Brew, and Kean's Coffee houses, Archie's Ice Cream, Rutabegorz, After's Ice Cream, Zama Tea and Kombucha Inc., 7 Leaves Tea, and Once Upon A Story at the Enderle Center in Tustin.

Through a unique joint effort with Assistance League and Assisteens of Tustin, book donations will go to local THINK Together Early Learning Centers that operate throughout Southern California at pediatric clinics and resource centers. "The Assisteens of Tustin provide a wonderful service to THINK Together's Early Learning programs and the Orange County Book Bank," said Dr. Tracy Carmichael, Chief Engagement Officer at THINK Together. "The Book Drive Event coordinated by the Assisteens allows THINK Together to provide thousands of books to children so we can support early literacy for as many children as possible. We are in this together!"

Sheri Hammond, President of Assistance League of Tustin, was very excited to again be working together with THINK Together on this project. "Reading is a wonderful way to explore the world through use of imagination, and it unites both generations and different cultures," said Mrs. Hammond.

This national community awareness event reinforces the Assistance League's motto: caring and commitment in action. With 23,000 members in the 120 chapters nationwide, the Assistance League focuses on making our communities a better place to live.

THINK Together's mission is to create opportunities for all kids to discover their passions and reach their full potential. Since 1994, they have improved academic outcomes for children and youth living in under-resourced communities.

Assistance League is a national non-profit organization that puts caring and commitment into action through community-based philanthropic programs. We empower volunteers through a strong network of local chapters to meet changing needs in our community.
