Lisa Vitrano, one of WNY's most respected actresses, turns the spotlight on her own experiences as a single mother in the world premiere of Bitch Bares All, opening Friday, January 28, 2010, at the Road Less Traveled Theater.

The one-woman show is written by and stars Vitrano, under the direction of Kristen Tripp Kelley. In this strongly autobiographical tale, Vitrano essays the character of a 16-year-old girl, who discovers she is pregnant, as well as several of the figures in her life, including her disapproving (though ultimately supportive) mother.

Vitrano and Tripp Kelley have collaborated on the development of Bitch Bares All since 2009. A workshop production of an early version of the show was well-received by audiences during the 2009 Buffalo Infringement Festival. Bitch Bares All's lineage, however, dates back to an earlier work of Vitrano's, titled Shedding The Shadows, which was originally produced by Pandora's Box Theatre Company in 2001.

Vitrano says she began writing the piece sometime in 1995, "as an attempt to create a theatrical version of my experiences. Through many years and countless rewrites, time has given me the courage and objectivity to share a story I can be truly proud of."

RLTP Literary Director/Resident Playwright Jon Elston notes the show has a "broad appeal. Despite the tongue-in-cheek title, Bitch Bares All is really an upbeat and frankly life-affirming show about a young woman making the most of a tough situation." Vitrano goes a step further, calling Bitch Bares All "basically a valentine to my son."

RLTP's world-premiere production will also feature an original score from composer Alan Kryszak, who previously contributed original music to RLTP productions of Triangles and The Man Who Had All The Luck. Kryszak said that the score serves to "amplify Ms. Vitrano's singing and speech patterns, creating a set of variations which offer both support and conflict to the heroine." "Plus," Elston inserted, "it rocks!"

"Lisa weaves theatre and poetry together into a brave, touching, and funny personal journey of self-discovery and motherhood," Elston added.

Vitrano states that her work on Bitch Bares All has helped her realize that "it's not about the actual events that took place (in my life)... it's really all about my journey as a whole, thus far."
"Sometimes," she added, "it's necessary to go back, in order to move forward."

Lisa Vitrano is a Buffalo native who, since 1993, has played numerous characters upon nearly every stage in town. She is RLTP's Resident Actress and has been seen in the RLTP productions of Humpty Dumpty, Triangles, A Light Lunch, and Grenadine, as well as originating lead roles in two Jon Elston plays: Xaviera in The Peddler's Bones and Fae in Private Viewing, which earned her an Artvoice Artie Award for Outstanding Actress in a Play, 2005. Lisa was named Best All-Around Actress in Buffalo Spree magazine's "Best of WNY, 2006."

Bitch Bares All runs ONLY January 28 through Sunday, February 13. Performances run Thursday through Saturday at 7:30 PM and Sunday at 2:00 PM.
