O'Connell & Company Productions Presents THE WIZ Thru 2/14
Beginning January 28th, O'Connell & Company Productions has been entertaing Buffalo audiences with their production of The Wiz. The Tony Award winning musical version of Frank L. Baum's
"The Wonderful Wizard of Oz", tells the story from a modern perspective with a book by William F. Brown and music and lyrics by Charlie Smalls.
Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tinman & the Lion travel a fantastical, futuristic road trip & learn some things along the way about rising above one's background & the expectations of others. Dorothy also realizes the importance of home & family.
The winner of 7 Tony Awards when it premiered on Broadway in 1974 & featuring such classic songs as "Ease On Down The Road" & "Everybody Rejoice", The Wiz continually has audiences dancing in the aisles.Remaining performances are on February 5th-6th and 12th-13th at 7:30PM and February 7th and 14th at 2:30PM. O'Connell & Company was founded in 1995 by Buffalo award-winning actress Mary Kate O'Connell. The Company was in residence at its own theatre, the Cabaret in the Square in Snyder, N.Y. until June 2008. During this time, O'Connell & Company grew into one of WNY's most respected resident theatres. Performances have included: "Baby", "Nunsense", "Closer Than Ever", "Passion", "We're Still Hot", "Wild Women Don't Get the Blues", "Musical of Musicals-The Musical", "Buffalo ZINGS", and the wonderfully popular O'Connell & Company original, "DIVA by DIVA: A Celebration of Women!" which is now in its 10th year.
On June 5, 2009 O'Connell & Company Productions announced an innovative arts partnership with Erie Community College North Campus that will expand performing arts opportunities for both the WNY community and the growing ECC community. O'Connell & Company will produce a full season of plays, musicals and special events on the ECC campus and will continue its weekly performances of "DIVA by DIVA: A Celebration of Women!"
