NYC-ARTS Celebrates Groundbreaking Women in Arts in January

This January, NYC-ARTS will highlight trailblazing women in the arts, all of whom are celebrated for taking risks and bringing their respective crafts to new heights.

On January 3, the series will profile acclaimed soprano Julia Bullock, the 2018-2019 Artist in Residence at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Hailed by The New York Times as an "exceptional singer of the new generation," Bullock is best known for incorporating social consciousness and activism in her artistry. As the Artist in Residence, Bullock crafts a year of thought-provoking performances based the museum's exhibitions and collections, musing on the ideas of identity, objectification and history.

Later in the month, on January 31, the series will feature a segment highlighting women choreographers. Those featured include, Camille A. Brown, award-winning choreographer known for addressing the issues of identity through dance; Pam Tanowitz, critically-acclaimed choreographer known for her modern interpretations of classical dance; and Ashley Bouder, a principal dancer at the New York City Ballet and founder of The Ashley Bouder Project, which focuses on commissioning new works by women choreographers and composers.

NYC-ARTS, THIRTEEN's weekly arts and culture multi-platform showcase, brings arts lovers an all-access pass to the interesting, unusual and unique cultural offerings of the greater New York City region.

Co-hosted by New York Emmy Award winners Philippe de Montebello and Paula Zahn, with events around town reported by Christina Ha, NYC-ARTS showcases both world-renowned and local, community-based arts organizations.

The program airs on Thursday nights at 8 p.m. on THIRTEEN and is also available to stream on NYC-ARTS.org on Friday mornings. Encore presentations generally follow on Sundays at 12 noon on THIRTEEN; Tuesdays at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. on WLIW21; and Saturdays at 7 p.m. on NJTV.
