Gallery Players' PROOF to Open 10/25

The Gallery Players 48th season continues and offers up Proof by David Auburn, the 2001 winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, and the Tony Award winner for Best Play. This beautiful and haunting story explores a woman dealing with her brilliant but mentally unstable father's death and how much madness and / or genius she will inherit. Proof is directed by Gallery veteran Mark Gallagher (Equus, The History Boys), and features the talents of Justine Campbell-Elliott, John Blaylock*, Bonnie Wickeraad* and David Gazzo. Proof will open on Saturday October 25, 2014 at 8pm and run through November 9, 2014. (*member of Actor's Equity Association)

The show is produced by Gallery President Mark Harborth with Associate Producers Sara Slagle and Kate Lala, Directed by Mark Gallagher, with Sets by Bradley Wehrle, Lighting by Scott Borowka, Costumes by Tony Johnson, Props by Sara Slagle, and Original Score composed by Jacob Subotnick.

Performances will be held Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings at 8:00 pm and Sunday afternoons at 3:00 pm. There will be a Saturday 2:00 pm performance on November 1st and November 8th. Tickets are $18 for Adults and $14 for senior citizens, students, and children 12 and under. The Gallery Players is located at 199 14th Street, between 4th and 5th Avenues, in Park Slope, Brooklyn.

David Auburn's plays include Proof (Pulitzer Prize, Tony Award, New York Drama Critics Circle Award), An Upset and Amateurs (EST Marathons), and Skyscraper. Films include "The Girl in the Park" (writer/director) and "The Lake House." Recent directing credits include A Delicate Balance for BTF. His short plays have been collected in the volume Fifth Planet And Other Plays (DPS). His work has been published in Harper's, New England Review, and Guilt and Pleasure; and he was a contributing editor to the Oxford American Writers Thesaurus. A former Guggenheim Fellow, he lives in New York City.

Mark Gallagher (Director) Mark's recent NYC directing credits include Equus, The History Boys and Branded (Gallery), Blue Window (NYU/Tisch), Bedroom Farce (American Academy of Dramatic Art), Voracious (LaMaMa), Cowboy Mouth (Stable Cable), Lobby Hero (Reach Ensemble), Nixons in Purgatory (Wild Ride Co.) and The Pride (3rd Year Collective). He is currently a Teaching Artist-in-Residence at Mayo Performing Arts Center. Other directing credits include the Seattle premieres of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, The Shape of Things, This Is Our Youth as well as productions of The Illusion, The Grapes of Wrath, Nicholas Nickleby, Our Country's Good, Little Shop of Horrors and The Visit. Mark has worked with Seattle's Annex and Intiman Theatres, Seattle Rep, Philadelphia's Wilma Theatre, D.C.'s Present Stages, and the Colorado, Montana, Pennsylvania and Seattle Shakespeare Festivals. He has taught and directed at Boston's Walnut Hill School for the Arts, The Bush School, the University of Washington and Savannah College. In addition to directing Cyrano de Bergerac and an adaptation of James Thurber's The Greatest Man in the World, Mark co-directed an outdoor production of the new musical The Buffalo Nickels Medicine Show for Piper Theatre this summer.
