Literature-inspired show by Bushwick Book Club with Dame Darcy for BROOKLYN BOOK FESTIVAL BOOK END EVENTS - September 17th, 7pm at Barbès in Park Slope.

MEAT CAKE BIBLE is Victorian fantasy and fairytale, comedy and tragedy, horror and humor in gorgeous illustrations that are at once visual art and narrative. Author, Dame Darcy indulges in everything she wants, at once. She's not only a cartoonist, but fine artist, musician, actor, fortune teller and doll maker. She defies genre in every sense of the word.

Bushwick Book Club is also a genre-challenging, label-illusive phenomenon, taking inspiration from the written word for new music, dance, art, film and snacks. This OFFICIAL BROOKLYN BOOK FESTIVAL BOOK END EVENT is an opportunity to see how the multi-faceted, multi-layered, multi-realmed creativity of Dame Darcy's Victorian, gothic, humor, romance, horror comic, MEAT CAKE BIBLE, ignites the creativity of Brooklyn's most daring, dynamic and shameless literary songwriters, artists, filmmakers and chefs. Author, performer Dame Darcy will also be present for Q&A/author talk and special musical performance!

Bushwick Book Club is a unique, literature-themed event inviting musicians, artists, chefs and all readers to be inspired, create and engage with literature in new and deeper ways. Each event showcases new music, dance, art and culinary creations inspired by a chosen work of literature. Bushwick Book Club is the first literary/musical crossover event of its kind. From its origins in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Bushwick in 2009, the event has expanded to chapters in Seattle, WA; Los Angeles, CA; Santa Barbara, CA; New Orleans, LA and Malmo, Sweden, using everything from Flaubert to Nabakov to Dr. Seuss as fodder for new creations and performance.
