BrooklynONE To Present New Performances Of GODSPELL Ahead Of Off-Broadway Move Following an acclaimed run earlier this summer and in anticipation of its upcoming move Off-Broadway, brooklynONE productions (bkONE) will present additional performances of its new production of Godspell beginning September 7, 2018.

The production, directed by bkONE founder and artistic director Anthony Marino, sets Godspell in a Lutheran Church reimagined as an abandoned 1990s-era New York City punk club and features musical performances by punk band The Government.

Original Godspell cast member Peggy Gordon will appear at a talkback with the audience following the 2pm performance on Saturday, September 8.

The cast of Godspell features Valerie Cirillo, Joanna Connolly, Dana DiAngelo, Danielle Giacino Papaleo, Erech Holder-Hetmeyer, Anthony Marino, Brandon Thomas Martin, John Panepinto, Georgie Raiola, Miguel A. Sierra, Jannicke Steadman-Charles, and Tyler VanTassel.

The production is designed by Danielle Rose Fisher. Choreography is by Valerie Cirillo. Brendan Rorke is the music director. John Pud Panepinto is the co-director. Marialana Ardelino is the production stage manager.

Godspell is composed by Stephen Schwartz with a book adapted from the Gospel of Matthew by John-Michael Tebelak. The show opened Off Broadway on May 17, 1971 and has played in various touring companies and revivals many times since. Several cast albums have been released over the years and one of its songs, "Day by Day," reached #13 on the Billboard pop singles chart in the summer of 1972. The show originated in 1970 as Tebelak's master's thesis project in Pittsburgh. Tebelak then directed the show, with much of the student cast, for ten performances at La Mama Experimental Theatre Club. A version also ran at the famed Cherry Lane Theatre in NYC. One song, "By My Side", written by CMU students Jay Hamburger and Peggy Gordon, was retained from the original score. As with the original score, most of the non-Schwartz lyrics were from the Episcopal Hymnal.

Performances will be held on Friday, September 7 at 8pm, Saturday, September 8 at 2pm and 8pm, and Sunday, September 9 at 4pm.

All seats are $20. Tickets may be purchased by visiting www.bkONE.org.

Redeemer-St. John's Lutheran Church is located at 939 83rd Street in Brooklyn, New York.
