Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts at Brooklyn College (BCBC) concludes its 2013-14 Target Storybook Series with American Family Theater's The Wizard of OzonSunday, May 18, 2014 at 2pm. All tickets are $7 and can be purchased by phone at 718-951-4500 (Tues-Sat, 1pm-6pm), or online at BrooklynCenterOnline.org. The performance is recommended for ages four and up.

Based on L. Frank Baum's classic book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, this original musical tells the beloved story of Dorothy's adventure over the rainbow as she follows the yellow brick road with the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion towards the Emerald City and the mysterious Wizard who can help her get home. Featuring original lyrics, music and book by Don Kersey, the hour-long performance features such songs as "Be Brave," "Back Home," and "It's So Easy to be a Witch."

Founded in 1975, American Family Theater (AFT) is the nation's premier producer of musicals for families and young audiences, performing in over 300 venues each year. As a distinguished leader in the development of arts-in-education, all American Family Theater productions are designed to enrich and motivate, providing unique experiences for audiences of all ages to share.

The centerpiece of BCBC's 2013-14 family programming, the Target Storybook Series features performances based on classic and contemporary children's literature and aims to encourage the development of strong reading skills at home in children ages four to eight. Each performance is accompanied by a Parents' Guide, with literacy-based activity sheets, reading tips, and discussion topics, giving parents the opportunity to engage their children both pre- and post-performance.
