Aboriginal Centre for the Performing Arts Brings UP THE LADDER to QPAC, October 24-27

By:

After a sell-out season of Jane Harrison's play Stolen in 2011, the Aboriginal Centre for the Performing Arts(ACPA) returns with its new production Up the Ladder, featuring more than 50 of their most talented dancers, singers, actors and musicians.

Up the Ladder written by Playwright Roger Bennett and directed by Queensland Theatre Company Artistic Director, Wesley Enoch, runs from 24 to 27 October in the Cremorne Theatre, Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC).

This exciting new production of Up the Ladder will showcase the next generation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander performing artists in an entertaining and inspiring story about one man’s triumph over adversity.

QPAC Chief Executive John Kotzas said Up the Ladder was an important production within QPAC’s ongoing commitment to bringing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander work to the states leading home of live performance.

“QPAC’s enduring relationship with ACPA highlights our commitment to nurturing the ecology of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander performing arts. At the core of this relationship is a commitment to provide emerging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander musicians, dancers and actors with the experience of performing high quality productions in a world class venue”, said Mr Kotzas.

Up the Ladder evokes the carnival atmosphere, humour and energy of 1940s and 50s sideshows. The story follows an Aboriginal man’s journey from the humble rough and tumble of post-war Australian boxing tents, to a high profile professional career as a champion boxer.

Grab yourself a ring side seat and experience the blood and sweat, the smell of sawdust of the boxing tents when ACPA and QPACbrings Up the Ladder to the Cremorne Theatre for a strictly limited season.
