Trad is the hilarious and poignant Irish play about a son, 100-year-old Thomas, and his even older Da, who set off on a quest to find the son that Thomas thinks he fathered 70 years ago. After all that time on earth, they want to know if the family line will survive. An award-winning comedy by Mark Doherty that keeps you laughing all the way to an unexpected finale.

Macklin Devine

Thomas (Son)
Macklin Hanlon Devine (Thomas/Son) was last seen at Cape Rep in All Our Best and as Musician/Edward in The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. One of his favorite theater experiences was co-writing and performing in the original musical Archibald Avery with his brothers—a project commissioned by Cape Rep and a highlight of his artistic life. Other Cape Rep credits include: Shakespeare in Love (Webster), Billy Elliot the Musical (Tall Boy/Posh Boy), Rock the Bard: Midsummer (Puck), Jerusalem (Markie), and Mamma Mia!. With the Young Company (YoCo), he’s appeared in Great Expectations (Herbert/Pip), Macbeth (Witch 1/Murderer 1), Once in a Lifetime (Lawrence Vail), The Winter’s Tale (Shepherd), Waiting for Ham (Ghost of Hamlet’s Father/Player), and The Odyssey (Odysseus). At Harwich Junior Theatre, he played Dill in To Kill a Mockingbird and Renfield in Dracula. He also portrayed Romeo in 4C’s production of Romeo and Juliet. Macklin is the bassist and backup vocalist for the rock band Club 9 Ball, alongside his two brothers. A proud alumnus of Cape Rep’s Young Company, he now mentors the next generation of YoCo artists. He hopes to continue growing as a professional musician and actor, and looks forward to future opportunities to help inspire and educate young creatives. Seton Brown

Da
Seton Brown (Da) is a proud member of Actors’ Equity Association. He holds an M.F.A. in Acting from the American Conservatory Theater and a B.A. in Theatre from Wittenberg University, with additional Shakespeare training at Primo del Teatro/Teatro di Pisa in Italy. He has performed with companies including American Conservatory Theater, Cape Rep Theatre, and Weathervane Playhouse, in roles such as Riff in West Side Story, Homer Wells in The Cider House Rules, and Francis Henshall in One Man, Two Guvnors. His screen work includes the feature film Shit & Champagne, Desdemona, and appearances with PBS and Warrior Poet Productions. As a playwright and director, Seton premiered his original play Pickle Me Tink at Cape Rep Theatre in 2024. Above all, Seton gives his love to his wife Chelsey, his daughter Zeppelin, and their dog Sirius — the truest joy in his life.


Ian Hamilton

Sal / Father Rice
Ian Hamilton (Sal / Father Rice) is a Cape-based actor and educator. Past roles include Louis in Sunday in the Park with George (Cape Rep), Nellie/Bull/etc. in The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane (Cape Rep), and Aldolpho in The Drowsy Chaperone (Cape Cod Theatre Company/Harwich Junior Theatre). Aside from his work as an actor, Ian serves as the Director of Drama at Nauset Regional High School, is the Associate Director of Cape Rep’s Young Company, and works as Camper Life Director at Brewster Day Camp.


Jonathan Ford

Fiddler
Jonathan Ford (Fiddler) is an accomplished musician, specializing in Irish fiddle music and tin whistle. He has competed at all Ireland competitions in both instruments 5 times and played in multiple well known venues across New England. His musical compositions are well recognized and have received multiple awards as well. Jonathan has recently enlisted in the United States Air Force and will be attending basic training in December to become a K9 officer. In addition to playing and writing music, Jonathan enjoys making coffee, working on, and driving his car.

Alison Weller

Director
Alison Weller (Director) Alison is excited to be directing again at Cape Rep, having helmed The Foreigner in the Outdoor Theater many summers ago. Other directing credits include Pugilist at Barrow Street Theater and King Stag at Meridian Academy. As an actor Alison has worked on and off Broadway and in regional theaters around the country; film work includes The Good House, Spirited, and Don’t Look Up. Alison is an Associate Artist with the Obie-Award winning The Civilians and was an original collaborator on Gone Missing, amusing on loss after 9/11, and This Beautiful City, an investigation into Evangelicalism in Colorado Springs. Her play Boundless, about life in Cape Cod’s fishing community, for which she also wrote the lyrics, premiered at Cape Rep in 2017 and had subsequent performances in the sister ports of Gloucester and New Bedford. Alison has taught investigative theater extensively, both at The New School and as a teaching artist with The Civilians. She currently teaches dramaturgy in the Performing Arts Management Program at Brooklyn College. As the resident voice and speech coach at Cape Rep, she is proud to have worked with The Young Company and The Bold Company since their inceptions. BA: Harvard. MFA: UCSD. www.alison-weller.com


James P. Byrne

Scenic and Lighting Design
James P. Byrne (Scenic & Lighting Design) James has directed, designed, performed and taught theatre from coast to coast. North, south, east and west for 50 years.


Robin McLaughlin

Costume Design
Robin McLaughlin (Costume Design) When Robin was 5 someone asked her what she wanted to be when she grew up, “A designer,” she said, and she has been sewing and creating ever since. Moving to Southern California at 21, Robin started her career as a costumer in film when there were 3 networks and it was TV vs film. After 2 years in Australia and following the birth of her daughter Leanne, they relocated to Cape Cod, where Robin has worked as an acclaimed costume designer for theaters across the Cape and Islands for the last 25 years.

Holly Erin McCarthy

Stage Manager
Holly Erin McCarthy (Stage Manager) Holly has filled many roles here at Cape Rep in her 23 years with the organization. In addition to occasional Stage Management, Holly is also a Director, Writer, Performer, Costume Designer and Props Designer. Holly grew up on the Cape, and attended Plymouth State University, where she earned her degree in Performance and Creative Writing. She currently lives in Yarmouth with a man named Josh and a cat named Pretzel, both of whom she met online.
