Rounding Third, by Richard Dresser, portrays the tumultuous journey of two Little League coaches through an entire season, from their first tentative meeting to the climactic championship game. Over the course of exhilarating victories and heartbreaking defeats, the two men battle over how to lead the team. The play is rated PG-13. Performance time with intermission about two hours.
"The Hyannis Harbor Hawks are elated to partner with Hyannis Arts Hall for this fundraiser," said Jim Hurley, president of Hyannis Harbor Hawks. "It's a win-win for both organizations. It helps us expand our fan base and support the local community."
The play will be performed as a reading with music and sound effects, on Saturday, June 27, at 7 pm and Sunday, June 28 at 2 pm - to benefit both the Hyannis Harbor Hawks of the Cape Cod Baseball League and the year-round Hyannis Arts Hall. Harbor Hawks staff will hold a talkback Q AND A with the audience after Sunday's performance.
Doors will open an hour before performances, with beer, wine, and nonalcoholic beverages, plus ballpark snacks and a silent auction of baseball memorabilia. Familiar faces from Cape Cod stages are bringing this Off Broadway hit to the Hyannis Arts Hall stage with Hyannis Harbor Hawks. J Hagenbuckle directs, with Neil McGarry and Philip Scudder as the coaches. The production is the first of more than a dozen plays, comedy acts, movies, concerts, lectures and more being scheduled at Hyannis Arts Hall through early fall.
Hyannis Harbor Hawks is one of 10 teams in the Cape Cod Baseball League, the premier collegiate summer baseball league in the nation, with its origins dating to 1885. The nonprofit 501[c]3 organization draws players from across the United States, representing all NCAA college divisions.
Hyannis Arts Hall is part of the 501[c]3 nonprofit Hyannis Arts and Film, along with Hyannis Film Festival and Hyannis Arts and Flea. The organization is devoted to bringing the performing arts and culture to Hyannis and Cape Cod, to boost the local economy. The hall also offers space for public celebrations and meetings.
