Silkroad's American Railroad tour, guided by Artistic Director Rhiannon Giddens, kicks off on November 7, 2024. This initiative sheds light on the contributions of Indigenous and immigrant laborers in building the Transcontinental Railroad, featuring new works by Layale Chaker, Sandeep Das, and Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Michael Abels. The program includes arrangements that tell stories of the railroad's impact on diverse communities, alongside educational and community engagement activities. The tour spans ten cities, exploring music's role in addressing historical injustices and fostering dialogue on cultural heritage.
