August is a month of transitions, and Theater Offensive is taking the heat into the fall! Recently, Theater Offensive has wrapped up its first (ever!) True Color Summer Company, and are brimming with excitement to resume a new company in the fall.

True Colors had an unforgetable and eventful summer. With the guidance of Havalah Backus and Nick Bazo, the youth developed working with movement, voice, characterization, and monologue/scene study. In addition to studying the theories of Augusto Boal, Sandy Meisner, Kristin Linklater, and Moshe Feldenkrais, they workshopped with guest artists in clowning, improv and Shakespeare. Perhaps the most exciting guest was actor/singer Anthony Rapp, in town on tour with the hit Broadway musical, RENT!

To top the whole experience, their final performance of monologues and scenes was a great hit! It took place this past Saturday, and was well-attended with an audience of family, friends, funders, TTO staff, and board members. What incredible support we have! Following the performance, members trouped over to downtown Boston for their annual summer picnic, as they enjoyed Shakespeare on The Common in the sizzlin' sun.

The Theater Offensive has recently executed a leadership expansion in which staff have been realigned to take on enhanced roles. Eve, Eugene and Evelyn (who have each worked with the company for 6-10 years!) are taking the reins from Abe in key areas, building a stronger leadership team for the future. Thanks to the support from the Boston Foundation, Shapiro Foundation and other anonymous donors, Theater Offensive forsees exciting times ahead, led by a solid, well-equipped organization!

The Theater Offensive is a resident theatre company at the Boston Center for the Arts. The Theater Offensive's mission is to form and present the diverse realities of queer lives in art so bold it breaks through personal isolation and political orthodoxy to help build an honest, progressive community.
