The Boston Pops Come To The Jorgensen 12/5

By:

Boston Pops Winter Gala with the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra Keith Lockhart, Conductor
Sat, Dec 5, 2009, 8 pm

The winter holidays provide a sleigh full of sensory delight: the crunch of new-fallen snow, frost etchings on windowpanes, twinkling lights on lamp posts and trees, the smell of gingerbread - and the musical merriment of the Boston Pops. Join in the season's good cheer as Keith Lockhart leads the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra through festive modern classics and timeless carols on Saturday, December 5 at 8 pm at Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts on the UConn campus in Storrs.

Enjoy a family-friendly evening of holiday Americana featuring the Pops' own highly acclaimed arrangements of Christmas and other seasonal music. The program includes the signature "Sleigh Ride" by Leroy Anderson, and a rousing holiday sing-along with favorites like "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer," "Winter Wonderland," and "Jingle Bells." (Psssst! Santa will be there, too!)
The Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra, which the New York Times calls "the best-known, most recorded and arguably most popular orchestra in the United States," began its holiday performances in 1974 with a three-concert series at Symphony Hall. Since then, public demand for the performances has increased dramatically. The orchestra's 80 musicians play to more than one million patrons each year and reach millions more through televised broadcasts.

Now in his fifteenth season with the orchestra, Keith Lockhart first brought his own flair to the stage when he was named conductor of the Boston Pops in 1995. He is only the third official conductor since 1930, following in the footsteps of the ground-breaking Arthur Fiedler and Academy-Award winning composer John Williams.

Enjoy this cherished holiday musical tradition with the whole family at Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts, located at 2132 Hillside Road on the UConn campus in Storrs - just 30 minutes from Hartford! Tickets are $30, $50 and $60. For ticket information, call 860.486.4226, or order online at jorgensen.uconn.edu. Free, convenient parking is available across the street in the North Garage.
