Elizabeth Addison is a rising composer, lyricist, playwright, and grateful recovering addict who brings us THIS IS TREATMENT, a powerfully evocative story of women recovering from drug addiction. Described as a "drama filled, emotional roller coaster, tear jerker of the best variety," Addison's new musical allows us to enter the world of treatment and forces a light upon issues that are too often kept in darkness. At its heart, THIS IS TREATMENT addresses themes that are both particular and universal: it is a celebration of women helping one another, and it is a testimony to the resilience of the human spirit.

A lover of musicals since she was a young girl, Elizabeth always dreamed of writing one herself. Unfortunately, Elizabeth suffered from debilitating fear, doubt, and insecurity, which led her to believe that that dream was not possible for her. In her early 20's, she found herself addicted to diet pills, weed, alcohol and food. Eight years into active addiction, Elizabeth was drinking a fifth of vodka daily; all her bridges, relationships, and opportunities had been burned, and she was regularly contemplating suicide. Due to what she believes was a kind of "divine intervention," Elizabeth sought treatment with her dreams of being an artist as the driving force. Upon entering treatment, she realized that it was about more than just putting the drink or drug down, and that for recovery to be possible and long lasting, she would have to undergo a complete psychic change.

During her time at treatment, Elizabeth kept saying "someone needs to write a story about this." Six months after graduating treatment, Elizabeth began thinking about writing a musical. There was one problem- she had never written a song before and didn't have the money to hire a composer. In a fateful meeting with a music producer on another project, the producer looked at Elizabeth and said "I bet you have a lot of songs." Elizabeth said, "No, I don't have any. I'm not a trained musician, took a couple of years of piano as a kid but was never any good." The producer then said the twelve words that would change Elizabeth's life, "if you can write a melody, then you can write a song." The very next day she rented a studio at the Dance Complex, sat at a piano, and THIS IS TREATMENT was born.
