THE SERVANT OF TWO MASTERS to Play Suffolk University, 4/9-11

By:

The Suffolk University Theatre Department presents a new adaptation of Carlo Goldoni's 1753 commedia dell'arte masterpiece, The Servant of Two Masters. Caitlin Langstaff directs the new version by Oded Gross and Tracy Young, with original lyrics by Gross, Paul James Prendergast and Young, and original music and music direction by J Hagenbuckle. The Servant of Two Masters is on stage at Suffolk University's C. Walsh Theatre for four performances, April 9 -11.

In The Servant of Two Masters, our hero is Truffaldino, a wily and always ravenously hungry servant who wants to double his wages and eat a big dinner. To do that, Truffaldino has to scramble through multiple identities, narrow escapes, and an unexpected romance.

Langstaff is a director, actor and professor in the Suffolk University Theatre Department specializing in movement, clowning and combat. She is co-Artistic Director of Tidal Theatre Company, producer of the Mosquito StorySlam on Cape Cod.

The design team includes scenic designer Richard W. Chambers, costumer designer Emily Woods Hogue, and lighting designer Steven McIntosh. Performances feature live, original music performed by the cast, written by Elliot Norton award winner, Hagenbuckle, who has worked extensively as a sound designer, composer and musician in New England, on- and off-Broadway, and on film.

The Servant of Two Masters opens Thursday, April 9, and runs through Saturday, April 11, 2015. Tickets are $15 for the general public and are available online at www.suffolk.edu/theatre. Discounted $10 tickets are available for students and seniors. The C. Walsh Theatre is located at 55 Temple St., behind the State House in Beacon Hill.
