Stoneham Theatre to Open 15th Season with DOUBT, 9/11-28

Stoneham Theatre opens its 15th season with Doubt, John Patrick Shanley's Pulitzer Prize-winning play, featuring Karen MacDonald and Gabriel Kuttner in the two lead roles. Performances run from September 11-28 at Stoneham Theatre, 395 Main Street in Stoneham.

When a zealous principal confronts a priest about a relationship with a student, is she on a witch-hunt, or is the priest hiding a dark secret? Doubt was named the #1 play of 2004 by Time, Newsday, Entertainment Weekly, Daily News, Star-Ledger, Associated Press, Timeout New York, and the Wall Street Journal and now celebrates its 10th anniversary. Stoneham Theatre's production is directed by Associate Artistic Director Caitlin Lowans and features a stellar cast: Karen MacDonald as Sister Aloysius; Gabriel Kuttner as Father Brendan Flynn; Kathryn Myles as Sister James; and Miranda Craigwell as Mrs. Muller.

Karen MacDonald is an award-winning Boston-based actress, who most recently understudied and performed the role of Amanda Wingfield in The Glass Menagerie on Broadway. She is a founding member of the American Repertory Theatre and has performed in more than 70 of their productions. She has worked with many other Boston area theatres and regional theatres around the country, including: The Huntington Theatre Company; Commonwealth Shakespeare Company; SpeakEasy Stage Company; and The Lyric Stage Company in Boston; and Shakespeare and Co., Roundabout Theatre, Playwrights Horizons, The Goodman Theatre, and many more across the country. Doubt marks her debut with Stoneham Theatre.

Gabriel Kuttner returns to Stoneham Theatre, where previous credits include A Christmas Carol and Hockey Mom / Hockey Dad. Gabriel is a Boston-based theatre artist, educator and director of the Davis Square Theatre in Somerville. As an actor he has worked with many Boston area companies including: ASP, Lyric Stage, New Rep, Stoneham, Boston Playwrights, Publick, WHAT and others. He was a founding member of Orfeo Group, whose work was recognized with an Elliot Norton Award in 2012. He has twice been the recipient of the IRNE Award (Solo Performance and Best Supporting Actor).

Kathryn Myles has previously been seen at Stoneham Theatre in These Shining Lives. Recent Boston area credits include: Tribes (SpeakEasy Stage Company); Henry VIII (Actors' Shakespeare Project), Pericles (Actors' Shakespeare Project), Our Town (Huntington Theatre Company), Trout Stanley (Exquisite Corps), A Feeble Mind (Brown Box Theater Project), Enron (Zeitgeist Stage), Melancholy Play (Holland Productions), The Effect of Gamma Rays... (Happy Medium) and Macbeth, King Lear, Much Ado About Nothing (Hampshire Shakespeare Company).

Miranda Craigwell makes her Stoneham Theatre debut with Doubt. Ms. Craigwell was most recently seen as Valerie in Smart People (The Huntington Theatre Company), Lady Capulet in Romeo and Juliet (ASP), Selector in How We Got On (Company One), Shylock in Merchant of Venus (Zero Point Theater), Silvia in Two Gentlemen of Verona (ASP), Susan in Race (New Rep), and Oya in The Brother/Sister Plays** (Company One, winner of the IRNE Award for Best Ensemble Production). Film roles include Grace in "Little Eyes" (Beyond Measure Productions), Margaret in "Four" (Jam the Wimp productions), and she was recently a Playwright Fellow with the Huntington Theatre Company.

Doubt opens on September 11, 2014 and runs through September 28, 2014. Performances are Thursdays at 7:30pm; Fridays at 8:00pm; Saturdays at 3:00pm and 8:00pm; and Sundays at 2:00pm.
