Seacoast Rep Presents AIDA Feb. 27 - Mar. 15

By:

Since 2003, Seacoast Repertory Theatre's (the Rep) Youth Mainstage program has featured the region's most talented young theatre artists showcasing their amazing abilities through a fully realized, professionally supported production. From Les Miserable's - School Edition to Honk, our youth have dazzled audiences and this year is no different...the Rep's Youth Mainstage proudly presents Elton John and Tim Rice's AIDA February 27 - March 15, 2009.

AIDA is a soft pop-rock family musical based on Giuseppe Verdi's Italian-language opera by the same name. The Broadway production ran at the Palace Theatre from March 23, 2000 to September 4, 2004 for a total of 1,852 performances. AIDA was an instant audience favorite which received 5 Tony Award© nominations, winning 4 including Best Original Score and Best Actress in a Musical as well as a Drama Desk Award© and a Grammy Award© for Best Musical Show Album. An all-star album featuring songs from the musical was released, with "Written in the Stars", as a duet by Elton John and country superstar Lee Ann Rimes, which became a breakout hit. The song stayed at number two on the Billboard charts for four weeks.

AIDA tells the story of an enslaved Nubian princess, a privileged daughter of an Egyptian Pharaoh and the soldier they both love. A love triangle that altered history forever, which ultimately transcended the strife between two warring nations, and heralded in an unprecedented time of peace and prosperity. Bursting with energy and teeming with vibrant song and dance, AIDA is an epic tale of loyalty, betrayal, and forbidden love you will never forget.

At the helm of this production as both the Director and Musical Director is the Rep's Associate Artistic Director, Craig J. Faulkner with choreography by Tim Stokel, scenic design by Jillian Mitchell and costume design by Jessica Moryl. "The caliber of the young artist who have joined together with this fabulous production team make this show one not to be missed." says Faulkner.
