Stephen Sondheim's Tony-Award winning Sweeney Todd, a macabre musical thriller, blends Sondheim's characteristic wit with a sweeping and hauntingly beautiful score, grisly humor, and chilling drama. Set against the backdrop of the shadowy back alleys and side streets of 19th-century London, the musical follows disgraced barber Sweeney Todd on his quest for vengeance after years of unjust imprisonment and exile. With the aid of Mrs. Lovett, the proprietor of failing pie shop, Sweeney sets out to avenge the terrible wrongs done to him and his family.

SWEENEY TODD stars Remo Airaldi* (The Beadle); Rishi Basu (Jonas Fogg, Ensemble); Amelia Broome* (Mrs. Lovett); Christopher Chew* (Sweeney Todd); Meghan LaFlam (Johanna); Davron S. Monroe* (Adolfo Pirelli); Sam Simahk* (Anthony Hope); Paul Soper* (Judge Turpin); Phil Tayler* (Tobias Ragg); and Lisa Yuen* (Beggar Woman).

Review: The Huntingtons THE ART OF BURNING Could Use a Bit More Fire Photo
The trend of modern plays seems to be that playwrights a trimming down their plays, often to ninety minutes or less. While this brevity can work for many plays, it doesn’t work for all. There’s only so much a playwright can say or do in ninety minutes and sometimes plays move too quickly and the audience leaves wondering if they missed something.
