Rachel York Special Guests at New Rep Gala May 6

By:

On Tuesday, May 6, 2008, New Repertory Theatre will hold its annual Gala Fundraiser.  Broadway, television, film and recording star Rachel York will perform as the gala's special guest. York, who earned Drama Desk and Drama League nominations for her portrayal of Ruth Sutton in the Lincoln Center Theater's production of Dessa Rose, the Ahrens and Flaherty musical which closes the 2007-2008 New Rep season, will perform selections of songs from her critically-acclaimed cabaret "For the Love of It." All proceeds will support New Rep's educational and artistic programming.

Rachel York is best known for her performances on the Broadway stage. Her performance of Norma Cassidy in the Broadway cast of Victor/Victoria, opposite Julie Andrews, won her a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Featured Actress in a Musical. York's other Broadway credits include leading and featured roles in City of Angels, Les Miserables, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Sly Fox and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. York is also acclaimed for her portrayal of Lucille Ball in the CBS made for television movie, Lucy. Her first solo album, "Let's Fall in Love," has been an enormous success since its release in January of 2005.  The album will be on sale at concessions throughout the 2007-2008 season for $20 dollars with a portion of the proceeds generously donated to support New Rep.

New Rep Annual Fundraising Gala will be held at New Repertory Theatre, in residence at the Arsenal Center for the Arts. 321 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
