O.W.I. (Bureau of Theatre), recently awarded Best Visiting Production for Keith Hamilton Cobb's American Moor by the Independent Reviewers of New England, presents the Boston premiere of RED VELVET, written by Lolita Chakrabarti and directed by Bryn Boice. Performances take place May 30 - June 16, 2018 in the Plaza Theatre on the campus of the Boston Center for the Arts (539 Tremont St., Boston, MA). Tickets from $28.50-$38.50, are on sale now at www.bostontheatrescene.com. The play runs 2 hours and 10 minutes with intermission.

Theatre Royal, Covent Garden, 1833. Edmund Kean, the greatest actor of his generation, has collapsed on stage whilst playing Othello. A young black American actor has been asked to take over the role. But as the public riot in the streets over the abolition of slavery, how will the cast, critics and audience react to the revolution taking place in the theatre?

Lolita Chakrabarti's play creates imagined experiences based on the little-known, but true, story of Ira Aldridge, an African-American actor who, in the nineteenth century, built an incredible reputation on the stages of London and Europe.

With Matt Arnold, Siobhan Carroll, Benjamin Church, Tom Grenon, Seth Hill, Desiré Graham, Charlotte Kinder, Spencer Tew. Scene design by James Fenton (IRNE nominated for Silent Sky-Merrimack Repertory Theatre), Lighting design by Alexander Fetchko, Costume design by Becca Jewett.
