The Hanover Theatre for the Performing Arts invites patrons to celebrate the holiday season this year at with New England's largest production of A CHRISTMAS CAROL, December 16-23, sponsored by Bank of America. Adapted and directed by Troy Siebels, Executive Director of The Hanover Theatre, this Charles Dickens classic has become a holiday tradition for families around Worcester County. Tickets to all seven performances are $25-$48 and are available online at TheHanoverTheatre.org, by phone at 877.571.SHOW (7469) or at The Hanover Theatre Box Office located at 2 Southbridge Street in downtown Worcester. A CHRISTMAS CAROL tells the tale of curmudgeonly miser Ebenezer Scrooge, who is visited by the ghosts of Christmases Past, Present and Future, hoping to change his destiny and save his soul. This brilliant musical, packed with dazzling effects, timeless music and colorful costumes and scenery, follows Scrooge through a series of strange and magical journeys, where he ultimately discovers the true spirit of the holiday season.

"A CHRISTMAS CAROL's underlying themes of charity, mercy, forbearance and benevolence are universal though, and are equally relevant to people of all religions and backgrounds," said Troy Siebels.

This year's production contains a few familiar faces and some new ones. Dale Place of Boston, MA and Peter Adams of Salem, MA return as Ebenezer Scrooge and Ghost of Christmas Present; while newcomers John Davin of Boston, MA and Tyler Bellmon of New York City make their Hanover Theatre debut as the Ghost of Jacob Marley and Young Ebenezer. A CHRISTMAS CAROL is tweaked and revised each year to keep the production young and fresh, but it still retains some of its core attributes which set it apart from other productions.

"The Mighty Wurlitzer theatre pipe organ has become an integral part in our production of A CHRISTMAS CAROL. It contains 2,400 pipes, giving the music more breadth, variety, and power at the fingertips of music director Tim Evans," said Siebels. "The show blends choral and pipe organ music, both of which are evocative of traditional holiday carols, in a unique way."

"The scale of the production and special effects are greater than that of most of the Broadway national tours that play The Hanover Theatre," said Siebels. With a cast of 32, the largest to date, the theatre's fourth annual production boasts an array of special effects from four different kinds of smoke and fog to achieve different affects at specific points in the show, to spectacular flying effects, with the help of a California-based company called ZFX Inc.

A CHRISTMAS CAROL is recommended for children ages 8 and up. Tickets for military, kids and students are half price, so the whole family can attend. Performance times are Friday, December 16 at 7:30pm, Saturday, December 17 at 2pm & 7:30pm, Sunday, December 18 at 1pm & 6pm and Friday, December 23 at 2pm & 7pm.
