MTG's SWEENEY TODD Seeking Run Crew and Spot Ops

By:

The MIT Musical Theatre Guild is looking for people interested in the following positions for the Spring 2014 production of SWEENEY TODD:

- Run Crew

- Spot Ops

Performance Dates: April 25, 26, May 1-3 at 8 PM and April 27 at 2 PM.

Contact the stage manager, Carter, at whuffman@mit.edu by Wednesday April 9th to express interest in these positions.

Spot Op: Operates the spotlight throughout the show. Run Crew: The tech crew that supervises the performance and assists the actors whenever necessary.

Sweeney Todd features Book by Hugh Wheeler and Music and Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. The rare instance of a musical thriller, Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler's chilling, suspenseful, heart-pounding masterpiece of murderous barber-ism and culinary crime tells the infamous tale of the unjustly exiled barber who returns to 19th century London seeking revenge against the lecherous judge who framed him and ravaged his young wife. His thirst for blood soon expands to include his unfortunate customers, and the resourceful proprietress of the pie shop downstairs soon has the people of London lining up in droves with her mysterious new meat pie recipe!

Sophisticated, macabre, visceral and uncompromising, SWEENEY TODD nevertheless has a great sense of fun, mixing intense drama with howlingly funny moments of dark humor: audiences find themselves laughing hysterically one moment and gasping in surprise the next.

At the show's core is a challenging score of epic proportion with two tasty tour de force roles in Sweeney and his comic female accomplice Mrs. Lovett. Although it has been extremely popular with opera companies and in concert presentation, SWEENEY TODD is equally effective as an intimate chamber musical.

Cast, production staff, and orchestra positions are open to everyone, although preference will be given to MIT students and community members in accordance with the MTG constitution.

Constitution of the MIT Musical Theatre Guild, Section 2.1: "A full awareness of the Musical Theatre Guild's affiliation with MIT will be maintained. In filling cast and production positions, priority will be given to members of the MIT community, and in particular to MIT students."

The MIT community includes all MIT students, alumni, faculty, staff, their immediate families, and Wellesley students. The membership of the Musical Theatre Guild consists of anyone who has worked on an MTG show within the past year, regardless of MIT affiliation.

MTG is a volunteer organization; compensation is not provided to production staff, cast, or orchestra members.
