Little Theatre of Fall River will hold auditions for its next production of CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF on November 8th and 12th at the Firebarn Theatre in Fall River. Auditions for the Tennessee Williams' play will take place Sunday, November 8th from 2pm to 5pm and Thursday, November 12th from 7pm to 9pm.

CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF is the story of a southern family in crisis, focusing on the turbulent relationship of a wife and husband, Maggie "The cat" and Brick Pollitt, and their interaction with Brick's family over the course of a one-evening gathering at the family estate in Mississippi. The gathering is ostensibly to celebrate the birthday of patriarch and tycoon, "Big Daddy" Pollitt, who is unaware that he has cancer and will not live to see another birthday.

Auditions will consist of readings from the play. Performances will be held March 8th through 11th, 2010 at Bristol Community College. The production will use the 1974 version of CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF, edited by Williams himself. The casting breakdown is as follows:

Maggie the "Cat": 30's to early 40's. She is witty and beautiful - a woman who has escaped a childhood of desperate poverty to marry into the wealthy Pollitt family. She is desperate in her sense of longing, bound to a man who does not want her, and made all the more beautiful in her envy and isolation.

Brick Pollitt: 30's to early 40's. The "favorite" Pollitt son and Maggie's husband, Brick is an aging football hero, who drinks heavily and scorns his wife. He uses a crutch throughout the show.

Big Daddy Pollitt: 60's. A brash and vulgar plantation owner and self-made millionaire, who is unaware that he is dying of cancer. As he confronts the truth of impending death, he also forces Brick to confront his own demons.

Ida "Big Mama" Pollitt: 60's. Sincere and earnest, bedecked in flashy gems and occasionally grotesque, Mama is a woman embarrassingly dedicated to a man who despises her and in denial of his disgust.

Gooper Pollitt: 40's. Brick's elder brother, who is in a race against him to win Big Daddy's trust and, thereby, his estate.

Mae: 30's to 40's. Gooper's prolific wife who is driving her husband's persistence in securing Big Daddy's estate.

4 children: Gooper and Mae's. 6 - 12 in age - 2 boys and 2 girls

Sookey and Lacey: servants

Reverend Tooker: a tactless hypocrite and opportunist

Doctor Baugh: the Pollitt family's physician
