KAFKA FRAGMENTS and Lecture Set for Framingham State's 'Arts and Ideas Series', 2/24

By:

The 2013-14 Framingham State University Arts and Ideas Series presents an evening lecture "Existentialism and Alienation: Kafka, Kurtág and The True Path" and a performance of György Kurtág's "Kafka Fragments" Op.26 for Soprano and Violin on Monday, February 24, 7:00 PM in the Heineman Ecumenical and Cultural Center. Free to the general public. Lecture by Dr. Christian Gentry and performance by Aliana de la Guardia (soprano) and Gabriela Diaz (violin).

Throughout the nearly hour length work a persistent theme of "the path" (der Weg) emerges from György Kurtág's song cycle for soprano and violin, Kafka Fragments. Sometimes this path is a place of physical movement, a brief glimpse of time passing, a stage of dramatic performance, or a more complicated metaphor for the existential path of life. These ideas will be explored through lecture by Dr. Christian Gentry and experienced through compelling performances by Aliana de la Guardia (soprano) and Gabriela Diaz (violin).
