James Carroll to Launch New Book at Suffolk University's Modern Theatre

By:

Suffolk University's Modern Theatre will host an evening with James Carroll, the New York Times bestselling author and National Book Award winner, at 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 28. Carroll, a Boston Globe columnist, is a Distinguished Scholar-in-Residence at Suffolk University. The Modern Theatre is located at 525 Washington St. in the Downtown Crossing area of Boston.

The event will mark the publication of Jerusalem Jerusalem: How the Ancient City Ignited Our Modern World, which author Claire Messud has called "a lucid, calm, deeply compelling history of the literal and symbolic significance of that city, at the heart and origins of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam." The evening will feature a reading from the book, followed by a conversation with Robert Jay Lifton, eminent psychiatrist and National Book Award winner, and a discussion with the audience. Carroll will be available to sign copies of the book.

The Modern Theatre, which opened its doors in November 2010, is celebrating its inaugural season and brings a new performance space to the Washington Street Theatre District while restoring an important facet of Boston theatrical history. The state-of-the-art, 185-seat venue is ideal for live performances, conversations, readings and film screenings, and will promote excellence and innovation through all of its programming.
