ImprovBoston Presents CAMP, Now thru 6/22

By:

ImprovBoston presents Camp, an improvised summer comedy that follows a cast of "campers," played by ImprovBoston's comedians, through their adventures at an eight-week summer camp set in the year 1994. Camp runs Fridays at 10pm from tonight, May 11th through June 22nd. Tickets cost $14-$18. The show will run at ImprovBoston, 40 Prospect Street, Cambridge. Tickets cost $12-$16 and are available online at www.improvboston.com

"My own camp experiences not only continue to define me as an adult, but manage to influence every emotional choice that I bring to the stage as an improviser.  The best comedy comes out of truth and I can't think of a more truthful time in someone's life than a summer of firsts," said Shannon Connolly, an ImprovBoston cast member, who came up with the concept for this show.

Joe Creedon, who directed the sold out run of My Dark Love, a Twilight parody, saw the potential for great and sincere comedy in this format. "Improv is an art from about freshness, spontaneity, and new discoveries.  Summer camp is a time in which new ideas, new relationships, and new identities are formed.  ImprovBoston's Camp utilizes the spontaneity of improv to explore the experiences of campers in the summer of 1994, as they form friendships, fall in and out of love, and learn the true value of sunscreen," he added.

The hand-picked cast includes seasoned performers Jackie Arko, Shannon Connolly, Christine Cuddy, Chris Duffy, Hannah Foell, Bryce Read, Dave Sawyer, Tim Stonelake, Lori Strauss, and Ben Walsh who have studied and performed in comedy theaters across the northeast and throughout the country. The group developed characters for the show by exploring their own camp memories.
