ImprovBoston Mainstage Welcomes New Director

By:

ImprovBoston's cornerstone show has long been the hilarious weekly ImprovBoston Mainstage showcase. In advance of the theater's upcoming 30th anniversary, the theatre welcomed a new director to this popular mainstay. The show will continue to showcase the best of ImprovBoston's comedic style and some of the best improvisers in Boston. The show runs every Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $16, $12 for students with ID. 40 Prospect Street. Tickets are available online at www.improvboston.com or by phone at 617.576.1253.

Don Schuerman is the new director of ImprovBoston Mainstage. He follows ImprovBoston Artistic Director, Will Luera at the helm of this weekly show. Schuerman has performed improv in and around Boston since starting with My Mother's Fleabag in 1993 (a Boston College improv troupe whose alumni include Amy Poehler – UCB Theatre, Parks and Rec and Nancy Walls – The Daily Show, Bridesmaids). He was an ImprovBoston Mainstage performer until this year. He has directed about 20 shows during his time at ImprovBoston and helped launch popular shows and traditions like the Showcase Show series, the summer musicals, GoreFest, Geek Week, and others. He represented the US at an Improv Tournament as part of the Just For Laughs festival, where he was named MVP.
ImprovBoston Mainstage represents the core of ImprovBoston's style. The show is fast-paced, playful, anything goes, improv. The show merges a variety of improv philosophies and is an evening that can go in any direction and can mix long form unpredictability with short form games.

"I really want to take the work Will (Luera) has done with the show over the past 12 years to define the ImprovBoston style and help it explode into the most theatrical, interactive, and unpredictable show New England audiences can see," said Schuerman. "I am super excited for the challenge."

The current ImprovBoston Mainstage cast includes: Bobby Smithney, Robert Woo, Deana Criess Tolliver, Bryce Read, Shannon Connolly, Hannah Foell, Matt McLaughlin, Dave Sawyer, Christine Cuddy, and Patrick French.
