Felder's Monsieur Chopin Plays Cambridge, June 15-July 9

By:

The American Repertory Theatre (A.R.T.) has announced the East Coast premiere of Monsieur Chopin, featuring the romantic story and music of the Polish pianist-composer Frédéric Chopin, created and performed by Hershey Felder and directed by Joel Zwick.

Monsieur Chopin will begin performances on June 15 and runs through July 9 at the Loeb Drama Centre, 64 Brattle Street, Cambridge.

Monsieur Chopin marks the second in a trilogy about composers and their music, which was preceded by George Gershwin Alone (presented by the A.R.T. in 2002 and 2003 with sold-out performances during both runs) and which will culminate with Beethoven. The production comes to Cambridge following five months of sold-out performances at the Royal George Theatre in Chicago. Created by the same team that brought George Gershwin Alone to life, Monsieur Chopin begins at Frédéric Chopin's salon at 9 Square d'Orléans in Paris. Monsieur Chopin will teach a piano lesson that actually took place on March 4, 1848, just days after the February 1848 revolution. As Monsieur Chopin's piano lesson unfolds, he reveals secrets about the art of the piano and composition, as well as secrets about himself. Considered by his contemporaries, and now by history, as the true "Poet of the Piano," Monsieur Chopin features some of the pianist-composer's most beautiful and enduring music.

Tickets for Monsieur Chopin are $45 for all performances. Tickets purchased before May 1st are $10 off ($35 per ticket). Tickets are available at the A.R.T. Box office, by calling 617-547-8300 or through the A.R.T. website at www.amrep.org. Groups of 10 or more can receive a discount by calling 617-496-2000x8844.
