FIDDLER ON THE ROOF to Open 2012 Season for Barrington Stage Company

Barrington Stage Company, the award-winning theatre in Downtown Pittsfield, MA, under the leadership Artistic Director Julianne Boyd and Managing Director TriStan Wilson, is proud to announce it will present the musical Fiddler on the Roof as its 2012 season opener, with production dates from June 13 through July 14, 2012.

One of the great works of the American musical theatre, Fiddler on the Roof features a book by Joseph Stein, and a score by Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick. Based on the stories of Sholom Alecheim, Fiddler tells the universal tale of Tevye, the milkman, who tries to hold on to ‘tradition' as the world around him and his family in the Little Village of Anatevka changes.

"We have been waiting for three years for the rights to present Fiddler and are thrilled to share it with our Barrington Stage audiences. Following the tremendous success of this season's opener, Guys and Dolls, we wanted to announce Fiddler so audiences already here in the Berkshires can take advantage of getting their subscriptions now. We want to make theatergoing for the whole family a ‘tradition' at BSC," said Artistic Director Julianne Boyd.

Fiddler on the Roof opened at Broadway's Imperial Theatre on September 22, 1964, and won eight Tony Awards including Best Musical, Book and Score. The magnificent Bock and Harnick score includes ‘Tradition,' ‘Matchmaker, Matchmaker,' ‘To Life,' ‘If I Were a Rich Man,' and ‘Sunrise, Sunset.'
