Cape Rep Announces 'Dirty Blonde' As Part of Season

Cape Rep has announced the final addition to its critically acclaimed 2008 Season. dirty BLONDE by Claudia Shear will open in Cape Rep's Indoor Theatre on September 18 for a run through October 19. It will feature Trish LaRose, Ethan Paulini and a third cast member to be announced. Emily Swanson directs. Set, Costume and Lighting designer's will be announced at a later date.
dirty BLONDE explores the relationship between Jo and Charlie, two Mae West fans in New York as they realize their need for self-discovery and self-acceptance. This comedy includes recreations of key incidents in the life of Mae West, the legendary stage and screen star famous for her uninhibited sexuality. Through these recreations the audience is allowed a humorous and touching peek into the personal price Mae West paid for her need to constantly maintain her public image.dirty BLONDE premiered at the New York Theatre Workshop in January of 2000 and subsequently transferred to Broadway later that season where it was nominated for 5 Tony Awards including Best Play. Ms. Shear who created the title role, was also nominated for her performance.Cape Rep on Route 6A in E. Brewster opened their 2008 Indoor Theatre Season with Lanford Wilson's Fifth of July directed by Associate Artistic Director, Maura Hanlon. It continued with a sold out production of Michael Hollinger's Red Herring directed by William Roudebush. Elizabeth Lucas' production of the epic Tony Award winning musical Ragtime by Terrence McNally, Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens is currently playing to packed houses through August 23. It will continue on November 6 with award winning director, Steven Reynolds' production of Carson McCuller's Member of the Wedding.
