Boston Theater Company's ROMEO AND JULIET with Musical Twist Opens 10/24
Boston Theater Company's inaugural production pares the original text of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet down to 90 minutes and brings it to modern audiences, telling the story as a political drama set to contemporary pop music. The production runs from Thursday, October 24 to Saturday, November 2 at Club Café (209 Columbus Avenue, Boston, MA 02116).With the goal of bringing classic plays to young and modern audiences, Boston Theater Company is a collection of artists in their twenties dedicated to preserving the messages and historical language of classical scripts while approaching them in a contemporary way. This production of Romeo and Juliet removes parts of the text without altering any of the original words in order to address today's political turbulence."There are very few things that divide America more than politics," says Joey Frangieh, Founder of Boston Theater Company. "To make this classic and well known story relateable, we have Romeo and Juliet come from America's two largest political parties rather than from feuding families and we have added contemporary pop music, video components and a free drink. However, the message remains the same: love transcends hate."
