The first ever teen production of John Logan's 2010 Tony Award winning drama, Red is being produced by the Boston Teen Acting Troupe this May. This will be the first time in the show's history that RED will be acted, directed, produced, designed and run completely by teenagers.

Under the direction of three-time METG Award winner Jack Serio, the high school duo of Alex Bailey (Mark Rothko) and Nate Guevin (Ken) will take on the daunting task of performing as the master abstract expressionist and his assistant in a script by John Logan, hailed as "intense and exciting" by The New York Times.

A searing portrait of an artist's ambition and vulnerability, RED focuses on abstract expressionist painter Mark Rothko (Bailey) in 1958 as he is about to begin work on a series of large murals for the Four Seasons Restaurant in New York's famed Seagram Building. To help with this work, Rothko hires a new young assistant (Guevin); and as the two prep canvasses and mix paint, they have what amounts to a master class on the methods and purpose of art. A moving and compelling account of one of the greatest artists of the 20th century, RED also chronicles Rothko's growing realization that this commission, which should be the crowning achievement of his career, could also be his undoing.

For this teen premiere production, The Boston Teen Acting Troupe's own, three time Massachusetts Education Theatre Guild Award winner Jack Serio will direct. Serio's past credits include his acclaimed teen premier production of Yasmina Reza's GOD OF CARNAGE last May and his production of Burt V. Royals' DOG SEES GOD last August.

The Boston Teen Acting Troupe was founded in January of 2011 with the goal of bringing professional teen theatre to the greater Boston area, as well as providing an outlet for Boston teenagers who are serious about their craft. The BTAT's goal is to eliminate the cliché of "bad high school theater" by producing challenging plays not normally seen portrayed by young actors. Since 2011, the BTAT has produced eight completely teen run shows in a variety of Boston and Cambridge theatres. Coverage in The New York Times and on National Public Radio have created a fan following for the fledgling theatre group.

The artistic team includes Jack Serio (Artistic Director & Scenic Design), Jason Clark (Stage Manager), David Gentile (Lighting Design) and Jay Ricco (Sound Design).

RED's limited engagement runs May 22nd - 24th at the Bugler Performing Arts Center. For tickets, times and more information visitwww.bostonteenactingtroupe.com
