Boston Baroque Announces New Executive Director

By:

David Friend, President of the Board of Directors of Boston Baroque, and Martin Pearlman, Boston Baroque's Music Director, are delighted to announce the appointment of Miguel A. Rodriguez as the company's new Executive Director, effective October 15, 2012. Mr. Rodriguez was chosen after a national search guided by Arts Consulting Group.

Rodriguez brings to Boston Baroque an extensive background in arts management, including positions at Opera Boston, Boston Landmarks Orchestra, Boston Musica Viva, and Scullers Jazz club. His most recent positions have been in development for two political causes: from 2010 to early 2012, he was Director of Development for Mass Equality, the largest LGBT grassroots advocacy organization in Massachusetts; he is currently Finance Director for Mainers United for Marriage, the campaign to win the freedom to marry for same-sex couples in Maine. Prior to his career in arts management, Mr. Rodriguez had a career as a lyric tenor in both Europe and the United States.

Speaking for Boston Baroque's Board of Directors, Board President David Friend said, "After a long search, we are confident that we have found the right Executive Director for Boston Baroque. Miguel's background as a performing artist, lover of Baroque music and long-time Boston Baroque concertgoer, coupled with his extensive experience in arts management, make this truly a marriage made in heaven. I am delighted to welcome him to the organization and am looking forward to working with him on all the exciting plans we have, to build on the fabulous artistic product that has brought us worldwide acclaim."

When asked to comment on Mr. Rodriguez's appointment, Martin Pearlman, Founder and Music Director of Boston Baroque, replied, "I am delighted that Miguel Rodriguez will be coming on board as our new Executive Director. He brings a strong background in all the areas that are important for us at this juncture in our history, and I am confident he will be able to help strengthen the organization and lead it in exciting new directions, especially as we move toward our 40th anniversary season in 2013-14. I look forward to working with him."

Mr. Rodriguez expressed his delight in taking up the post of Executive Director, saying, "I feel very fortunate to be joining Boston Baroque at this time. Martin Pearlman and the Board have done a wonderful job building and sustaining the organization and have nurtured a very loyal audience both here in Boston and worldwide. As Boston Baroque approaches its 40th anniversary next year, I look forward to helping the team explore new ventures and establish an even greater presence for the institution."

Boston Baroque extends its sincere appreciation to Martha H. Jones for her interim leadership over the last nine months, and to Arts Consulting Group. Together, Ms. Jones and ACG have guided the organization through this historic transition and are handing off, to Mr. Rodriguez, a robustly stewarded organization – one poised to leap into its next 40 years.
