Barrington Stage Names New Artistic Associate/Director of New Play Development

Barrington Stage Company (BSC), the award-winning theatre in Downtown Pittsfield, MA, under the leadership of Artistic Director Julianne Boyd and Managing Director Tristan Wilson, has appointed Branden Huldeen as Artistic Associate/Director of New Play Development. Before joining the team at BSC, Branden was the New Works Director and Festival Producing Director for the National Alliance of Musical Theatre (NAMT), a member service organization devoted to the future of musical theatre around the world from 2008-2016.

At NAMT, he produced the Festival of New Musicals, New Works Summits, Writers Roundtables and additional NAMT concerts; managed the National Fund for New Musicals and Writers Residency Grants; and oversaw all of the New Works and Festival programs for NAMT, as well as consulted on, spoke about and advocated for new works development programs around the country.

Prior to NAMT, Branden was Education Associate at Theatre Development Fund, Associate Editor of Play by Play Theatre Magazine By and For Teens, and House Manager at the Vineyard Theatre. From 2001 until 2008, Branden was part of the New Plays for Young Audiences Series at NYU in various positions including producer of the 2008 season. At NYMF, he was the Associate Producer of Kingdom (Audience Favorite Award) and Associate Producer and General Manager of Maccabeat!. Branden was the Line Producer for Ian August's Missing Celia Rose and Alena Smith's The Sacrifices for the Summer Play Festival.

He is a graduate of the Commercial Theatre Institute's 3-day program, received a B.S. in Educational Theatre and a M.A. in Performing Arts Administration (Kurtz Scholarship Award Recipient for Excellence in Performing Arts Administration), both from New York University, where he also worked as the Associate Production Manager and worked on over 50 productions. Branden is a member of the Literary Managers and Dramaturgs of the America and is a freelance dramaturg focusing on new works.
