Barrington Stage Company Announces New Season, Including THE FANTASTICKS And THE LARAMIE PROJECT: 10 YEARS LATER

Barrington Stage Company, under the leadership of Artistic Director Julianne Boyd and Producing Director Richard M. Parison Jr., have announced its fall 2009 season productions of The Fantasticks, a staged reading of The Laramie Project: 10 Years Later (An Epilogue), and the return of Golden Globe winner Amanda McBroom. Fall in love with the world's longest-running musical, The Fantasticks, on the Mainstage from October 7 through 18. The Fantasticks is a captivating romantic comedy about a boy, a girl, two fathers, and a wall. With music by Harvey Schmidt and a book and lyrics by Tom Jones, The Fantasticks features memorable songs that include "Soon It's Gonna Rain," "They Were You" and the beloved hit "Try to Remember." The Fantasticks will be directed by Andrew Volkoff (BSC's Underneath the Lintel, I Am My Own Wife, Fully Committed) and choreographed by Janet Watson (choreographer of current NY production). Performances for The Fantasticks will take place on the BSC Mainstage, 30 Union Street , Pittsfield . Performance times are: Wednesday 7pm; Thursday-Saturday 8pm; Sunday 3pm. Additional performances will take place on Sunday, October 11 at 7pm, Wednesday, October 14 at 2pm and Saturday, October 17 at 4pm. BSC Mainstage, 30 Union Street , Pittsfield ; Tickets $15-35. The Fantasticks: Opening Night Saturday, October 10 at 8pm. $15 mezz/$20 orchestra tickets are available for October 7 and 8 previews.

The Laramie Project: 10 Years Later (An Epilogue) is a staged reading that will be directed by BSC Producing Director Richard M. Parison, Jr. The creators of the highly acclaimed play The Laramie Project, Moisés Kaufman, Leigh Fondakowski, Greg Pierotti, Andy Paris and Stephen Belber of the Tectonic Theater Project, which since 2000 has been one of the most performed plays in America , will premiere a compelling and groundbreaking epilogue to the original piece. The staged reading of The Laramie Project: 10 Years Later (An Epilogue), will be performed at Barrington Stage Company and more than 100 other theaters across the country on October 12, 2009. The epilogue focuses on the long-term effect of the murder of Matthew Shepard on the town of Laramie . It explores how the town has changed and how the murder continues to reverberate in the community. Performances are Monday, October 12 at 3pm and 7pm on the BSC Mainstage, 30 Union Street , Pittsfield . Tickets: $15 adults; $10 students; $75 Laramie Patron ticket.

Back by popular demand following her SRO engagement in July, Amanda McBroom brings her acclaimed cabaret performances to the BSC's Stage 2. Amanda McBroom has been called "...the greatest cabaret performer of her generation, an urban poet who writes like an angel and has a voice to match." Her name first came to the attention of the music public when Bette Midler's version of Amanda's song "The Rose" hit number one all over the world in 1979. But it was Amanda's performance of her own song on the Golden Globes (she won), the Grammys (she didn't) and The Tonight Show that launched her career as a singer as well as songwriter. Amanda McBroom in Cabaret plays at BSC's Stage 2, 36 Linden Street, Pittsfield, MA, on October 23 and 24, 2009 at 8:00 pm. Tickets are $35.
