New Family Theatre Series Awarded Grant by Boise City Department of Arts

By:

The Morrison Center announced its new Velma V. Morrison Family Theatre Series was awarded a $3,341 grant by the Boise City Department of Arts & History. "This was a very competitive year, with many excellent projects," said Terri Schorzman, Director of the Department of Arts & History.

"We are enthusiastic about the level of creativity and scholarship taking place in Boise. We received twice as many applications, with requests totaling four times the amount of money we have available." The new Family Theatre Series presents an opportunity for families in Boise and throughout the greater Treasure Valley to experience the magic of live, professional entertainment at affordable prices in a one-of-a-kind facility. "This is a wonderful stamp of approval for this new initiative," said James Patrick, Executive Director of the Velma V. Morrison Center. "The 21 other grant recipients were all highly qualified, so I feel we are in good company. The Family Theatre Series received the second highest amount awarded. Our goal is to make this series an annual offering, a signature series, and build an audience similar to what we have achieved with our successful Fred Meyer Broadway In Boise Series. Our venue is both intimate and grand and it is vital for young people to grow up with an appreciation for theatre and the arts." Research demonstrates that children who study and experience the performing arts are not only better students, but also more civic minded, productive adults. In three carefully chosen events, parents and children will be astonished, amused, touched, educated and astounded by everything from the simple, classic story of a baby bird, to live, exotic animals on stage. As the premier performing arts center of Idaho, the Velma V. Morrison Center for the Performing Arts is committed to providing the community with opportunities to visit the Center in order to introduce the next generation to the magic of live performance. The Family Theatre Series will provide access and opportunity to those in need at all socio-economic levels via affordable ticket pricing, group and ticket discounts and a limited supply of complimentary tickets to qualified non-profits that serve children and families in need.

Generous funding also provided by the Morrison Center Endowment Foundation, Inc.
