Idaho Shakespeare Festival Continues with MIDSUMMER, BAT BOY et al. Thru September

By:

The Idaho Shakespeare Festival is in full swing, with offerings this year that include A Midsummer Night's Dream, Bat Boy: The Musical, An Ideal Husband, Othello, and The Woman in Black.  For tickets and more information, visit www.idahoshakespeare.org.

A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM (Thru July 30)

A Festival classic returns to the stage! An exhilarating night of midsummer madness, this magical comedy brims with mistaken identity, mismatched lovers, and mischief-making fairies. Boldly inspired by the marvelously mod influences of a rock 'n' roll-infused 1960s London, this production of Shakespeare's comic masterpiece ensnares two pairs of lovers and a rustic troupe of would-be actors in a magical-mystery tour de force. A Midsummer Night's Dream is a joyful celebration of love lost, transformed, and restored that casts a powerfully pleasing spell on audiences of all ages.

BAT BOY: THE MUSICAL (Thru July 24)

Ripped from the hilarious headlines of the supermarket tabloid The Weekly World News, Bat Boy is a classic love story with serious bite. This delightfully delicious twist on the modern-day musical comedy tells the amazing story of a strange boy with pointy ears, his struggle to find a place in a world that shuns him, and the love that creates both miracles and madness. Armed with an exuberant score that integrates the best of rock, Broadway, gospel, and country music, this Off-Broadway Musical of the Year award winner is a witty comical confection that keeps both tongue and fang firmly in cheek.

AN IDEAL HUSBAND (July 16 - August 27)

This superb comedy of manners showcases the struggle between love and politics, honor and desire. Oscar Wilde's sharp wit takes center stage and holds the mirror up to society, wreaking havoc on its unsuspecting occupants to both disarm and endear the very same class he so lovingly mocks and skewers. Cheer for true love and relish the timeless talent and delicious vocabulary of a grand master of words, Oscar Wilde.

OTHELLO (August 6 - August 29)

In a bed of friendship and trust, a seed of jealousy is delicately planted. What ensues is a villainy that will destroy a true love affair and ruin a kingdom. Shakespeare's greatest tale of deception turns on the tiniest impulse to believe what our heart tells us cannot be true, and to look for signs of falsehood where none exist. Join the Festival for this moving tale of love discovered in fondness but lost in fury.

THE WOMAN IN BLACK (September 3 - September 26)

The smash hit of London's West End for more than 20 years, The Woman in Black is a not-to-miss for a fall evening at the Festival. Bring your friends for an electrifying and spine-chilling tale in the footsteps of the classic ghost story. Arthur Kipps is deeply troubled by his past. As a junior solicitor, he was summoned to attend to the final affairs of an elderly widow who lived alone in the desolate and secluded Eel Marsh House-a house still filled with uneasy secrets, a house whose associates do not rest in peace. Will Arthur be able to prevent further misfortune?
