Why are we all discussing The Note when we could be discussing The Fug?
I think this was a fairly prestigious landmark in her career.

" 'No offense, but none of the characters in Millie have quite the strenuous demands on them as the character of Elle in Legally Blonde.'

I disagree."

Clearly. lol People here are weird. However, while Millie is definitely a heavy dance show with an impressive vocal score, even Millie doesn't sing in the first act as much as Elle does. I mean, I LOVE Millie, but I think comparatively Elle does a HELL of a lot.

I love people saying these other young ladies are as big a star as LBB. They raised the money with her attached, not Ms. Gulsvig or Ashford. The woman is a star no matter what some of the people here choose to say. And she'll be around for a long time, long after one note is forgotten.
I guarantee you the producers didn't get involved just because Bell Bundy was going to play Elle. The draw to this show is primarily the title. The name Laura Bell Bundy is not going to putt butts in seats because no one outside The Palace Theater knows who the hell she is.

As long as shows like HAIRSPRAY, WICKED, and LEGALLY BLONDE are produced (and Telsey keeps casting them), she'll have a job. I think that after that, she's history.

People said the same thing about Mary Martin. They called her a flash in the pan and she had staying power. Audiences love LBB and I think she'll b around for quite some time. And judging from the way they marketed this show, I think getting her was a large element toward the green light.

Well if she is such a big star, shouldn't she have the gravitas to be able to ask for a new melody line?
Or shouldn't the creative team want to protect their star enough to not let her look bad?
This makes no sense to me. Things are transposed, changed, and adapted all the time. This isn't summer stock where the music director doesn't have time to transpose a song.

It's not even that one note she has trouble with though; from the key change of "Maybe she's what you prefer" is where she starts to go flat. It's like she can't hear the band or something, it's really weird.

It's not even toooo hard of a note. Not for what she's hit in the past anyhow.

Maybe she just doesn't have very good technique, it could be vocal fry.

I mean, kudos for the hard work, Laura Bell, but it is her job to hit the note every night.

This is coming from someone with no music background whatsoever - but is that a weird last note? I'm asking this seriously because even on the cast recording, it still just sounds like a weird final note (assuming it's right on the recording). I always thought that from the first time I heard it, before people started talking about how she had a hard time hitting it during the show.

"The only things on Broadway Laura has done in the past five years are WICKED and HAIRSPRAY"

DAMN!!! She's such a LOSER!!! Only her third Broadway show?!?! God....

LOL, are we serious here people? Most people would die to even get cast in one show!! We can debate the girl's vocal technique all damn day but don't deny her previous accomplishments.

Or her future ones. If she is as much fun as she appears and is as rapturously greeted as she appears, there must be producers all over th stem trying to figure out shows to do with her. I predict her star will continue to blaze brightly.

I don't question her talent or dismiss her impressive resume. m IF anything I think those two things simply demand that this be taken care of. I don't even like Legally blonde. I just think that a problem like this should be fixed quickly, for both the audience and the performer. I know that I wouldn't want this kind of chatter going on about my performance if I was struggling with something.

If she played a little less tonsil hockey with her leading man, perhaps she'd be able to hit the note.

You do have to give her props for carrying the entire show on her shoulder. I agree with everyone who said that.

I know it's a totally different situation, but Keisha Lewis-Evans absolutely blew me away on Thursday when I saw The Drowsy Chaperone. She's the one who hits that insanely high note in the very last bit when the power comes back on ~ coming in virtually cold after her big number which is done after waiting around the entire show. I was right in front of her on Thursday and girl can SING! She should have an album.

Still, even though she has only been on stage for a tiny time, I couldn't help but flash for a moment to the thought that she can hit a note like that virtually cold after sitting around for an hour or more after her little bit in the first act. As opposed to a fully warmed up actor attempting a lower note...

Like I said, I know it's different situations, but I'd think coming in cold like that is pretty hard just in another way.

You never "did" anything to me Jordan girl and i don't know you other than your profile here but if you're really a 36 year old teacher of young students, I just think you should be more mature in tone. Most of your posts make you sound like an angry teen fangirl with a big fat chip on her shoulder, like you just missed getting into AMDA. It gets scary after a while.

I highly doubt I am the only person who has a different tone in posts and in real life. And nope...not angry. Nothing like it. Sorry you interpret things that way.

(And I don't even know what AMDA is, so... Nope on that one too.)

...don't we have anything better to discuss?
