What is everyones favorite Broadway cast recordings? My top five are: WICKED THE WILD PARTY (Off Broadway Cast) RENT A CHORUS LINE THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE
In no particular order... Wicked Rent A Chorus Line My Fair Lady
"Wherever you go... I'll be right there. When you get your own private kick in the ass, just remember: it's a present from me to you."
Rose's dying words to Louise
okay lets see... 1. Gypsy- my mom is sorry she got it for me for christmas. I sing it too much 2. Millie 3. Hairspray 4. Phantom 5. 42nd Street- I love all the tapping in the soundtrack.
Oh... look at the precious... Its Orlando Bloom, my delicious little crumpet!
If banished to a desert island I would need: CANDIDE (Original Cast, Love those Hellman/Dorothy Parker lyrics) GYPSY (Merman IS still Rose until Patti gives it a whirl) WEST SIDE STORY (Original Cast, because Chita IS Anita) WONDERFUL TOWN (Roz Russell will never be equalled) BELLS ARE RINGING (either will Judy Holliday)
Where would I be without Bernstein and Julie Styne and Sonheim and Comden and Green?
Hands down. I buy the cast cd for most shows I see, listen to them a few times, then they become souveniers. But Millie is special. I just love it. I can't help but sing along whenever "Speedtest" comes around.
Other favorites: THE PRODUCERS HAIRSPRAY MAMMA MIA AVENUE Q (this one is growing on me).
I hope they come up with NEVER GONNA DANCE. The sampler is terrific.
...If I could only pick 5 to take to that island with me
1. WEST SIDE STORY 2. GYPSY 3. FUNNY GIRL 4. CANDIDE 5. HELLO, DOLLY!
All original Broadway casts.
Then I'd sneak away swewn into my clothing:
6. CAROUSEL 7. SOUTH PACIFIC 8. LADY IN THE DARK (if not the reconstructed version I have w/Gertie and Danny Kaye, then the London production with Maria Friedman) 9. CAMELOT 10. MY FAIR LADY 11. KISS ME, KATE 12. HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS WITHOUT REALLY TRYING (the original cast w/Bobby Morse)
And if I can't take all 12, well then I'm not going!
Yours for musicals on Broadway!
