Posted: 6/27/06 at 3:08pmLike the book, wouldn't be my favourite, but I'm already writing my favourites into musicals (two of them). So whats the general consensus? Would it work? I'd say it would be better as a play for dramatic dialogue instead of a musical, as there is not enough emotional fuel at times to warrant a song.
The rain we knew is a thing of the past -
deep-delving, dark, deliberate you would say
browsing on spire and bogland; but today
our sky-blue slates are steaming in the sun,
our yachts tinkling and dancing in the bay
like racehorses. We contemplate at last
shining windows, a future forbidden to no one.

Posted: 6/27/06 at 4:08pmIt doesn't strike me as a story that naturally sings. There is a straight stage version already adapted I think by Christopher Sergel. It's published by Heinemann Plays.

i don't think it would make a great musical...a play yes, but musical no. it reminds me of Anne Frank the musical...good Idea.

Posted: 6/28/06 at 4:32pmI did say I saw it more as a Play. What's Anne Frank like? I saw her house in Amsterdam. Really hard to believe what they did to her and her family, and the millions of others.
