Mya's film performances haven't been what I would call overly confident.

"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter

I think you have a point...something didn't mesh with Rosario and her character. Just my opinion. Overall its a good movie to see.

I thought Rosario was marvelous, and perfectly cast.

I loved Rosario. I thought she added a vulnerability to Mimi which brought depth to the character. I loved the whole cast. Suprisingly I was blown away by Jesse L. Martin's preformance. I thought it was absolutely seamless. I thought Tracie Thoms' vocal preformance was the best hands down. Anthony Rapp's preformance was awesome and much less showy than what I expected. Pascal's voice was better on the OBC, but still a solid preformance. As for Wilson...anyone who plays Angel has me enthralled from beginning to end, but he is the best of the Angels, and again, I was blown away. I wish it was doing better in the box office though. I've seen it 5 times already and plan to see it as many more as I can before it closes.

Everyone in that was cast had a soft yet believable part whereas Rosario seems to just filled in a space. She wasn't believable...her role seem dark, her vocals were weak (thank goodness for the studio) and lastly a more heavier singer would have rocked that role. Her duets were soft and empty almost calculated...no soul. I kept thinking come on MiMi make me believe in your character. She didn't draw me in like some of the other characters.

yeah...i agree....and even though i think Chris Columbus was a genious i hated the fact that Mimi is not wearing the classic outfit with the blue pants while singing "Out Tonight" besides he put those 2 dancers behind Rosario and it felt way too theatrical to be a stripper bar...i don't know...it was weird. Anyhow...i LOVED the movie and i liked Rosario and EVERYONE in the cast was great.

Correct me if I'm wrong... strippers/"exotic dancers" usually wear clothing more similar to the movie's costume than the stage costume.
I will give a bit of credence to your stripper bar argument. It seemed a bit more of a show than a stripper dive for the rich guys to go slumming in. But that's from a girl who's never been to a strip club, so that take for what it's worth. re: Rosario Dawson...the weakest link

"`I grow old... I grow old... I shall wear the bottoms of my trousers rolled.` What does that mean, Mr. Marlowe?" "Not a bloody thing. It just sounds good." He smiled. "That is from the `Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock.` Here's another one. `In the room women come and go/Talking of Michael Angelo.' Does that suggest anything to you, sir?" "Yeah -- it suggests to me that the guy didn't know very much about women." "My sentiments exactly, sir. Nonetheless I admire T. S. Eliot very much." that whole bar seemed out of place. it was a times sq./las vegas gentlemens club stuck dab in what was then a crack den. Weird.

Actually, i think another actor was the weekest link the film, but if i said their name here, id probably be shot dead on the spot.

well, one reason Mimi isn't wearing the blue pants when she's singing OUT TONIGHT in the film is because she's singing the first 1/2 at the Cat Scratch Club.
in the show she's singing the entire song in her apartment.
she does wear the blue pants in the film later on though.

I think that Rosario really nailed the part of Mimi. She really understood the character, the voice and the emotions. And yeah, she really filled out those blue pants and leopard boots pretty well!

I think the majority agree that Rosario Dawson nailed that part and made it her own. Even the RENT purists have come away impressed with her performance. That says alot because RENTHEADS are a pretty tough crowd to please.

I thought Rosario did a great job as Mimi
I loved her Out Tonight and I thought her
Without You was one of the saddest parts in
the movie. When I first saw the musical on stage
and heard the OBC version, the song had no affect
on me, but after I heard Rosario sing it the
song stuck with me for days. Then, when I listened
to the original Mimi sing it again, I didn't like
the way it sounded. I thought Rosario did a better job with Without You than the original Mimi.

Rosario sang the role very simply and sweetly. If you ask me, Adam Pascal was the weakest link. He cannot act and has no screen charisma. The result was that Rosario's Mimi, junkie tramp that she was, seemed far too good for him.

I ask in all honesty/What would life be?/Without a song and a dance, what are we?/So I say "Thank you for the music/For giving it to me."
