I love "On a Clear Day..." and " The Apple Tree" Whatever happend to Barbara Harris. I've seen her movies and wonder what could have happened to a talent like hers. I once heared she was mentally unstable and had to give up acting... any truth? I also heared she married well and didn't have any desire to act..any truth? During the '90s I thought she would have been a great choice for Norma Desmond... you know a faded muscial theatre star making a comeback as a faded movie star making a comeback... Whats the scoop?
She is great in Hitchcock's "Family Plot," Freaky Friday, even her little role in "Peggy Sue Got Married" Her singing is rich in charm and character. Her Quirky qaulity is unique and enchanting. It is so hard to believe that such a talent has become obscured. I sincerely hope she is well.
I got to see her twice on the stage and she was wonderful. She was incredibly charismatic and although she had voice problems the first time, her voice oddly enough strengthened as the evening progressed and she triumphed. The last I heard she was hired to play Tessie Tura in the Bette Midler tv version of "Gypsy". Apparently she lasted a day or two on the set and was let go. Little was reported as to why other than her behavior bordered on the bizarre and Midler was uncomfortable around her. This question as to whatever happened to her has been asked quite often in ATC room and the last time someone attached a newspaper article that mentioned she was teaching an acting class in New Mexico though the article was a few years old. A true shame we never got to see more of her on stage or film but I'm forever grateful we have her on two OBC CD'S.
