Has anyone watched the new drag reality compeition show, "Drag Me To Dinner"? It is produced by Tony winner Neil Patrick Harris and his partner David Burtka and the show pits two pairs of Drag Queens (mostly from "RuPaul's Drag Race" to compete and create dinner parties based on topocs given to them by David Burtka and bitchy commentary from Bianca Del Rio. The show in its first season seems to have too many ideas that weren't paired down, so they used them all. The show is very entertaining and the comments and comedy from the Drag Queens make it worth watching!...
My daughter and I have been enjoying Drag Me to Dinner. It's a hot mess in the best way, warts and all. Easy to laugh along with it as well as at it.
Neil Patrick Harris has some great deadpan moments and spit takes. Bianca Del Rio gets in some shrill double entendres and then some. The bit with her carrying the coin and unknowingly dropping it was hysterical. I loved the special effects with Haneefah Wood in the baby shower and toga party episodes. Otherwise, I'm not sure what she brings to the table.
I was not familiar with David Burtka before this show except knowing he was NPH's husband. He is highly likable and his "aunt" Sue Chef.... well, the contestants' responses to her assistance were pretty funny. I don't think some of them knew who she was. Murray Hill is a terrific host and should be nominated for an Emmy.
As for the drag queen contestants, they run the gamut of fun and highly interesting to as clueless as you'd expect. We're hungry for another dinner season.
