I say this hesitantly because I love Billy as a performer, thought he looked fabulous last night, and I was thrilled to see him hosting the ABC red carpet and having a great time:
He needs to finesse his interviewing skills –– mainly, stop talking over the actors and throwing out too many quips, even if it's well-intentioned agreements. Glenn Close could hardly get a word in. And it's standard protocol that an interviewer's outfit should never outshine the people he's interviewing. It all basically comes down to: this isn't about you. He wasn't the only one doing that last night, tho...but it's the kind of thing that makes media people a little salty.
At least he didn’t do what Menounos did to Bradley Cooper... gee... you did everything on this film and you still won’t be winning anything. Awkward. I think that given that Billy is new to this sort of format he did an amazing job. Particularly liked his interaction with Spike Lee and he did make a joke about how it isn’t about him knowing of course that he was FABULOUS ... I guess the Jonny Weir of the Oscars!
