Lion King was never on my list, but my parents really wanted to see it, so I took them out a few months ago ffor my dad's birthday. A few seconds into the opening number, I was openly weeping in my seat and my parents were SO confused. There's something so sweeping and emotional about it - it's really worth the experience, IMO.

Of course, the rest of the show doesn't quite live up to that, but all in all, it was a fun night out. As someone who went with very low expectations, I was pleasantly surprised.

If you mean why didn't they use one of the tour sets that would be because the tour is built and designed to run with no trap room, so the show deck and other pieces (such as Pride Rock) would not have worked for the Broadway production.

My mom saw it five years ago and came out saying basically the same things, that it looked like an amateur production, etc. But then we saw it together in London a few months ago and she seemed to like it a little better, and I didn't feel like any of those complaints applied. So better to see it in London, I guess is what I'm saying. Plus the dialogue sounds a lot better with British accents.
