The white vertical line is the nose, and the horizontal lines are an eye, the red dot is a tear, and the red waves are hair.

Wanting to understand something isn't stupid, or dumb at all. :)

When SITPWG was announced, several friends commented that Sondheim had lost it and a "Musical about a painting" sounded excruciating. I saw that image and immediately grasped the concept and was instantly intrigued.

The red hair in the Carrie poster also represent brain waves...telekinesis.
