Bernadette Peters & Elaine Stritch to take over in A Little Night Music?

Just read on Playbill.com that ALNM may now NOT close on June 20th and that Bernadette Peters and Elaine Stritch have been approached to take over as Desiree and Mme. Armfeldt. Even though I'm not a big fan of Nunn's production of this brilliant Sondheim show, the thought of these two ladies in those roles is pretty mouthwatering. If it's true, I hope it's still running with them in it in October when I'm hoping to get to New York next.

not sure about peters as i think she is too old to play desiree as she is 60 but strich yes!

I thought that too...

But I also thought she is one who can definitely play younger.

In addition to which, Dame Judi Dench was 60...

Having said that, Trevor Nunn said he was trying to do a younger Desiree, so...

This already may fall thru, she is already placing conditions during the negotiations. 8 shows a week are already a no goer.

yes and the judi dench version was a more mature version of the show as i had a conversation with someone about the 95 nt version not long ago. she might be able to play young but hannah and catherine have both been young!

Great performers yea, Stritch is sublime, Peters I can just handle.
BUT so wrong for this show.

I couldn't sit through any kind of performance by Whoopi even if someone paid me to go! I just find her incredibly irritating.

Agreed that this is inappropriate casting for both roles.
