An AmEx Gift Card....don't you usually have to pay fees on those? So then you are still paying more than necessary? (Of course, those fees might be worth it to you to get the tix a few weeks early.)

I thought they did a fantastic job, though Tony's mic was WAY too low. I'm not entirely sure what the message of 21 Guns is and I think it's a little difficult to get a good sense of the show from that song alone.

It is, however, an awesome showcasing of Kitt's vocal arrangements. I have my tickets for 3/24 (second row, dead center, balcony), I'm excited!

That's exactly what I thought when I was watching the actual show at the Berkeley Rep. Keep your expectations in check on this one kids, I'm warning you. I had em' high too. It's a good concert not a great show.

I don't think you could judge the movement of a show by one song, taken out of content.

Considering that "21 Guns" within the show is between two very fast-paced songs... to say that there wasn't enough movement is a little bit premature. The show, in general, is more upbeat and has lots of more movement than what you saw of "21 Guns."

I had high expectations going into it and the show met and went above them. To each their own... Some people love 'Hair' and gave me high expectations for that... and I wasn't impressed afterwards. So, yeah. Give 'American Idiot' a shot. If you like it, fine. If you don't, still fine.

Your blog doesn't explain anything either.

WHAT is going to be revolutionary? They are going to get the Spring Awakening audience and Green Day fans.

I'm not saying this can't be great...I actually would like it to be...but I don't think its going to CHANGE anything.

The reviews out of Berkely were not stellar, no one has heard if lots of changes have been or will be made.

I think the Grammy performance sounded beautiful and personally, I'm anxious to see it. Did anyone watching the Grammys say: :Wow! On B'way? I'm buying my tickets right now" I doubt it -- and some will be disappointed that Green Day AREN'T on stage.

I love Green Day so much. Last year, American Idiot, their CD, was literally the only thing I listened to for months.

I didn't see the stage production in Berkeley, but man, am I excited to see how they flesh this out for the stage.

Long ago, the most popular writers of pop music wrote for the stage. Somewhere in there it got lost as rock acoustically outgrew what theatre could bear.

With shows like Glee on the air, what the producers of American Idiot should do is not only put this on Broadway, but IMMEDIATELY release it for high schools and colleges and university theater departments. Break the traditional rules of waiting for the NY run, the touring productions, etc.

This is what young people want to sing.

When we came to New York 12 years ago with a rock scored musical, THE LAST SESSION, there were almost NO Broadway stage singers who could handle it. RENT had just come out and so the ones who could sing it, were in that show.

The new generations of singers can handle this material now and I think it's great.

I think the versatility of today's musical theatre talent pool is incredible. I'm mostly excited for this show because it has a chance to meld incredibly loyal fan bases together (Green Day and Broadway). For musical theatre to survive and thrive, it has to evolve and bring in new audience members. This show, along with similar "theatrical experiences" like Passing Strange, Fela!, Movin' Out, and even Hair, stretch the boundaries of what musical theatre can be.

I realize I may be in the minority, but I am not a purist in any sense. I believe that theatre can take many forms. Some may call American Idiot a glorified rock concert, but I disagree. In my opinion, musical theatre boils down to music and communication. Watch the "21 Guns" clip again. Is it not about connection? Communication? Is it not saying something?

We are all entitled to our opinions. That is what makes art so beautiful.

No one is trying to "be purist" or define art. The topic was revolutionizing musical theater. Now that I know that you haven't seen the show it makes sense that you don't understand why I question your assertion. You don't know yet that "American Idiot" is re-heated "Rent" aspiring to be "Spring Awakening" with the story line equal to one scene of either one.

I'm glad you are excited to see the show and welcome your opinions just watch where you throw those accolades. If you are so convinced about something before you ever experience it, you may never truly experience anything.

As far as the comment that THIS is the kind of show that today's youth WANT on b'way....I couldn't convince my HS kids to see this during our annual NY trip. And they are pretty sophisticated theater goers.
