I know people have posted about this show before, as they should have. Is it campy? Yes. Is it fun? YES! The music, imo, is really fun and enjoyable, yet, behind all of it's cartoon appeal is a big impact. Personally, the show's best number (and the favorite of the lyricist) is Paper Planes. This song is so powerful and I'm sure a BUNCH of you can relate to it.
"At Green Valley High School, it hardly matters who will lead student council. But trying telling that to the candidates running and the people who love them (or hate them). The rest of their lives seem to hinge on who can get the most votes.
This high-energy musical comedy focuses on the electoral process from the perspective of 3 high school seniors. The race forces the candidates to consider the meaning of each vote and the importance of distinctive character in politics. While some of the students have no problem gaining approval from their peers, others act as though they'll stop at nothing to win the coveted position of student council president. In the process of trying to please everybody, the election unravels, alliances change, and the candidates learn what it takes to make themselves happy?and the value of individual dreams."
As some of you might know, VOTE! is in the NY Fringe Festival. It will be playing at the Minetta Lane Theatre; FRI 14 @ 7:15; SAT 15 @ 2:30; SUN 16 @ 8:15; SUN 23 @ 3; WED 26 @ 5:30. Seriously, I urge you to see this. Not just because this show is one of my favorites, but because it is seriously GOOD! Also, exciting news! Up until now, VOTE! has had a myspace page BUT today was the launch of their new website and I must say, it looks FANTASTIC!
On the website, it is Haviland Stillwell singing it, and she is phenomenal too!
I seriously urge all of you to check this out! The cast hasn't been officially announced but I know it is in the works and offers have been made. The cast members I do know (not sure if I should tell yet) are GREAT for their roles! This is seriously going to be a fun and enjoyable evening for all who see it!
Me thinks they are recording a CD of sorts. Autumn Hulbert, who is involved in VOTE, said in her Facebook status that she has been in the studio recording but she didn't say what for.
well Autumn isn't part of VOTE! (although she was involved in the reading) Autumn is attached to their other project Nicholas and Alexandra, which is getting a reading this October (My personal favorite, which I can NOT wait for!) and from what I know, there has been no mention of a new album, just the demo, which can be heard on their website.
You can go to their website and check it out. There for a few weeks starting in mid-August, there are a BUNCH of different new shows that will play at various locations around the city. I believe it's $15 per show, every show. http://www.fringenyc.org/
Tickets don't go on sale until the 24th! I saw the workshop and the material is fantastic! Can't wait to see it with this cast. And as soon as I am able, I will tell, but I really shouldn't until things are sorted out officially.
AH!!! So glad they ditched that old myspace page and got a website worthy of their awesome show!
I, too, wish we could buy tickets already, but Fringe hasn't put them on sale yet. It looks like all those little ticket stubs that say "buy tickets" lead to the fringe site where we should eventually be able to get them though.
i'm a little upset that dana steingold won't be in this production... but i think that nina sturtz will also do a baller job as trish and do villain's girl justice
squeakyfromme82: im so glad they finally did something about that old school myspace page ... the new site is killer
Also, Muffin, the main character has been cast! Unfortunately, an announcement will not be made until Friday or Monday, but she is wonderful. This cast is, imo, casted perfectly! Article!
I'm so excited to VOTE! at fringe!! I have watched all of the youtube videos and I love love love it all. The cast announcement is so exciting! Diedra Goodwin is flawless in my book, and Kevin Michael Murphy is a-door-bell. And can we talk about how GORGEOUS they all are?
I don't see the point in bragging about having inside information if you aren't allowed to say anything. There's no point in holding it over everyone.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
"I don't see the point in bragging about having inside information if you aren't aloud to say anything. There's no point in holding it over everyone."
I wasn't allowed to tell yet, but it's not like I didn't at least give you a hint... Either way I can see her in the role. Hopefully she won't play the same role as she did with Elle and Sharpay, but I'm sure we will be surprised.
Thanks for the post Pianolin... It didn't come off as bragging at all, just super excited about a great new musical. I too am beyond excited for this production and can't wait to see it. Paper Planes is one of my favorite songs and Muffin happens to sing it too. As for the Muffin casting, Bailey didn't even audition until a couple of weeks ago, so this is VERY new news and in no way common knowledge unless people on here found out before she even did. As for breaking the stereotype of Queen of Fluff... Vote may not do that since it does seem alittle campy with it's humor, however since we haven't seen the finished production, I will wait and see.
